  • May 2023 – UIDAI Gov.in Updates

The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has introduced a new feature that enables users to verify their mobile numbers and email IDs online. This update can be accessed via the official UIDAI website or the m-Aadhaar mobile application. To use this service, individuals must first register their mobile number or email ID with UIDAI and link it to their Aadhaar card. Once this is done, users can authenticate their contact details by entering an OTP (One-Time Password) that will be sent to the registered mobile number or email ID. This feature provides an easy and convenient way for individuals to ensure that their Aadhaar details are up-to-date and accurate.

On May 2, the UIDAI announced a new online facility allowing Indian residents to verify their mobile numbers and email IDs linked with their Aadhaar. The Ministry of Electronics & IT stated that some residents were unsure about which mobile number was linked to their Aadhaar and were concerned that Aadhaar OTPs might be sent to the wrong number. The new facility, which can be accessed through the official website or the mAadhaar App, enables residents to easily check that their own email/mobile number is linked with their Aadhaar. Even if a resident cannot remember the mobile number given during enrollment, they can use the Verify Aadhaar feature on the website or app to check the last three digits of the number.

To link Aadhaar with a mobile number online, follow these steps: go to the official website of the telecom provider, enter the Aadhaar mobile number to be linked or verified, an OTP will be sent to the registered mobile phone number, enter the OTP and click “Submit” to continue, enter the linked 12-digit Aadhaar number, the telecom operator will send a message for OTP generation, submit KYC details and OTP, and accept all terms and conditions. Once complete, a confirmation message regarding Aadhaar and phone number re-verification will be sent.

Every time the user opens the App, he has to enter a security password. No one can access Aadhaar data in the App but the user.

When using your Aadhaar, keep these 5 Things in Mind:

  1. Generating VID: UIDAI can generate a Virtual Identifier (VID) if you don’t want to share your Aadhaar details. The UIDAI website(UIDAI gov.in) or maadhaar portal can be used instead of the Aadhaar number for authentication. After the end of the calendar day, this VID can be changed.
  2. Locking Aadhaar: It is possible to lock your Aadhaar and biometrics if you have decided not to use them for a specific period of time. Upon re-use, they can be unlocked easily and instantly.
  3. Do not leave your Aadhaar or its copy unattended: An Aadhaar letter, PVC (polyvinyl chloride) card, or a copy thereof should never be left unattended. Additionally, Aadhaar details should not be shared openly in the public domain, particularly on social media. It is strongly advised that Aadhaar holders do not divulge their OTP to any unauthorized entity and refrain from sharing their m-Aadhaar PIN with anyone.
  4. Check authentication history: You can view your Aadhaar authentication history for the last six months on the UIDAI website or the m-Aadhaar app. To check for possible forgeries, UIDAI also informs about every authentication by email. By linking an email address with an Aadhaar number, a user will receive an alert whenever their Aadhaar number is authenticated.
  5. Helpline number: To report any suspected unauthorized use of Aadhaar or for any other query, call UIDAI’s 24×7 toll-free helpline 1947 or email help@uidai.gov.in.
